Thalia was born the 26th of August 1972, in Hospital Espanol, Mexico.
The youngest of five children, Adriana Thalia Sodi Miranda was a tomboy
when she was younger and preferred playing sports with the boys and
being outdoors. A more feminine side kicked in when she enrolled in a
school to be trained in Classical Ballet. Her training and her eldest sister's acting career prompted Thalia to dream of seeing her name up in lights. She abandoned her dreams of becoming an Olympic Gold medalist to become a famous singer and actress. After piano lessons at the Instituto Mexicano de Musica at age eight, Thalia joined the music group Din-Din, who had participated in artistic festivals and released four albums. In 1984, she joined the group Vaselina and later joined the popular musical act Timbiriche as one of the backup singers. She performed as a chorus girl in the musical Grease, performed by Timbiriche. As luck would have it, the lead singer of Timbiriche ended up leaving the band, leaving the lead open for Thalia to fill. While her career as a singer was soaring, Thalia also began to establish herself as an actress. Between 1987 and 1989, she had small roles in soap operas such as La pobre seٌorita Limantour, Quinceaٌera and Luz y Sombra. After Thalia became the lead of Timbiriche, the popularity of the group increased even more, until disagreements between the group caused the band to breakup. With the split of Timbiriche, Thalia moved to Los Angeles for a year, a move that almost transformed her. When she returned to Mexico after a year, Thalia began her work as a solo artist with the release of her debut solo album Thalia that revealed the all new "Thalia". This was her first work with producer Alfredo Diaz Ordaz, who also produced her next two albums. Then came more acting roles for Thalia. She was the co-host of a popular variety show called VIP de noche in Spain, where she also agreed to work on a trilogy of soap operas. The first one was a hit when it came out in 1992, while the second soap opera, Marimar, was equally a huge success, receiving high ratings in the United States. In 1995, the third soap opera, Maria la del barrio was also a big hit. In 1995, En Extasis was released, Thalia's first album after having signed with EMI Music Mexico. The album, which was produced by Gloria Estefan's husband, Emilio Estefan, as well as Oscar Lopez, was number one for several weeks. The success of the album broke records in twenty countries and received many honors for the amount that it sold in Central America. After the success of En Extasis and her success as an actress, Thalia became recognized worldwide, creating an international fan base for the artist. In 1997, Thalia released another hugely successful album Amor a la mexicana, not to mention an album in the Filipino language, entitled Nandito Ako. The following honors are among the recognition that Thalia has received: As of 1997, Los Angeles declared April 25 "Thalia Day". She has been Queen of the Miami Carnival and Queen of the Broadway party in Los Angeles. A wax figure of Thalia was unveiled in Mexico City. Thalia had a role on another soap opera, Rosalinda and recently appeared in the feature film Mambo Café.
