They call Hakim the Lion of Egypt, but he's a Lion with a musical roar.
Hakim has brought the North African "street" pop sound of sha'bi into
the modern age, adding new rhythms and sounds to the tradition. His
music is the music of the masses, evident by his ever-growing fan base
throughout Europe, Australia, North and South America, and the Middle
East, which fuses traditional melodies with urban dance beats, and with
lyrics that chronicle daily life through the rhythm of the street. Lauded as a musical "trail blazer," Hakim has sold an estimated eight and a half million units throughout his career. His last album, Talakik, took a major step in Hakim's musical development, and was Hakim's international career-defining album; a statement of past, present, and future that's filled with spirit. Talakik refined the directions of Yaho (released 2001), and captured the energy of The Lion Roars: Live in Brooklyn (released 2002). For an album that's passionate and committed, Talakik looks ahead, but with its heart firmly planted in the roots of sha'bi. Britain's Transglobal Underground produced two tracks on Talakik, while legendary soul man Narada Michael Walden was behind the board for three cuts, and a duet with Hakim on "Feeling Good." One other soul-defining duet on the album was "Ya Albi," with Puerto Rican diva Olga Tanon. In February 2004 Hakim will release his next album. Again bringing together the talents of Narada Michael Walden with a duet with the Godfather of soul, James Brown and renowned Egyptian producer Hamid El Shaeri, but this time adding world famous Thomas Rodriquez and Sabu, his next album promises to be the most exciting to date. His Performances A major figure in the international music scene, Hakim has played to sell-out crowds in Europe, the Middle East, Australia, North America, and Africa. He has played at major international festivals including the Celebrate Brooklyn Festival, The World Economical Forum in New York (2002) with music legend Quincy Jones and many other international artists, and at The Radio City Music Hall with artists such as Elton John. Other festivals include the Sfinks Festival (Belgium), Les Orientales (St. Florent, France), Ghazala Beach (Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt), Palais Des Congres (Paris), the Taj Mahal (Atlantic City), and Extra Fiesta (Milan). In 2002 Hakim was honored by the President of Tunisia for his constant participation in charity concerts for the less-fortunate people support to the Arts in Tunisia. He was also honored in 1999 by the President of Palestine for his efforts and support to the Palestinian People. He also received honors in the USA receiving the Key of New Jersey from the New Jersey Maire. He has received numerous accolades including the award for Best North African Singer 2000, at Africa's prestigious Kora Awards, and he was chosen to represent Egypt at 1994's Festival des Allumees in Nantes, France. يَدْعونَ حكيم أسد مصر، لَكنَّه a أسد مَع a زئير موسيقي.
